Sharpened Needle Teeth

i used
to feel
all right
to feel
anything

a frag grenade
for whatever
12 step program
dream turned nightmare
i could find

first one
to catch
a fish
1000
miles
away

with
sharpened needle
teeth

a stray dog
dropped off
to lick my
own wounds

itchy hands
lost brothers
to the pause
for the cause

of course
i’ll
sign
it

anything
in memory
of floppy veins
writhing on
the bathroom floor

patiently waiting
for the flowers
daily delivered
by my depression
and

answering the door
with a spoonful
of comfort
from my precious
poison

i used
to feel
all right
to feel
anything
