The Reality of Luck, a Fickle Muse

luck is the wind
under Marilyn’s white dress

the results
of a cancer screening

that moment the bull’s horn
goes up the matador’s ass

a dull razor
that can’t quite cut the vein

a starving child
in a poor country

a starving child
in a rich country

the homeless people
that only missed one payment

the people one payment away
from sleeping on a park bench

the number 13
tattooed into my chest

that black cat I saw
before winning $20 on a lotto ticket

probably the same damn cat
I saw before wrecking my truck

luck is success
luck is failure

luck
is a fickle muse
