Don’t it Make you Smile?

I’m only as good
as you’ll let me
be
am I woman enough
to be your man?

the Earth turns with
a broken heart
I’m not the only
one

skipping beats
between the beat
of an ancient
drum’s
transcending
humdrum

guiding winds
heavens hands
traced
in the mud

oceans far
oceans wide
open up
climb inside

crack our differences
open

everybody’s
a believer
when there’s
no time
left

razors born
razors die
rules meant to be
broken

half shaven
half cyborg
one eye
and all

everywhere
everyone
come together
be as one

packed inside
full of doubt
where is the feast
we were promised?

up here
in my
dream
trading stories
with the changing
leaves
rested
on the streets
between them
cigarettes
and torn seams

one can only hope
for a better tomorrow
don’t it make you smile?
