Rusted Irony

hoping for something
out of sin
behind a burnt ritual mask
shattered and bent
after a failed attempt
at something magic

angry on the wire
a bluebird cries
staining the sheets of another

testing fate
bending time
cheating death

the candle gives way
to the wind
in fight-or-flight response
sneaking into Eden
upon a wing and a prayer

tragedy and comedy
one in the same
when tired eyes
fall to the ground

familiar
yet forgotten
as chivalry stabs idealism
with its sword
painted gold
over rusted irony
